  • ... that the 1986 musical Hound of Music satirised the conservative Queensland State Government led by Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen?
  • Source: McGovern, Kerry (December 26, 1986). "Hound of Music a roaring hit". Time Off.

  • Comment: This is similar to productions by the San Francisco Mime Troupe. They tend to spoof older works while satirizing local politics. I don't think the regional politics of Queensland will be all that interesting to a global audience unless it ties the satire back to the film homage and spoofs. I could write hooks about the San Francisco Mime Troupe that are funny to me based on my knowledge about local politics, but I don't think anyone outside of California would find them interesting. As a reader I find it very interesting that The Hound of Music uses works like The Sound of Music, combined with horror film tropes like Frankenstein to employ Austro-goth comedy that satirizes local politics. Curtesy ping Annepatriciajones, please see Viriditas's comment above. You may wish to have a read of WP:DYKINT. TarnishedPathtalk
@TarnishedPath: The nom hasn't been around for a few weeks. I can probably try to salvage this with a few new hooks later tonight. Viriditas (talk) 00:27, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Viriditas:, no worries. Ping me if you want a review if/when you do add some hooks. TarnishedPathtalk 01:01, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@TarnishedPath: I have finished taking a look. This is a tough one because my heart is with the artists, but my mind is focused on what we can verify. This article is part of a series that Anne Jones is writing about the hyperlocal history of the comedic arts in Brisbane. The problem is that I can't verify any of it because either the sources are offline and inaccessible or because they aren't covered in larger sources. For example, Time Off, a former music street press publication in Australia, is no longer online. Some of the links were preserved on Internet Archive, but if the archival articles are still there, it's going to take some work to find them. My point is that I can't write any hooks unless I can verify the material with my own eyes, and in this case, I can't verify a single word. Unless we can get access to some sources, I would unfortunately move to reject. Perhaps this can go through the GAN process and get a second chance. Viriditas (talk) 21:01, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Update: I was able to find confirmation for part of my original hook proposal up above in a book about a film, possibly a filmed staged production. It appears in Australia on the Small Screen, 1970-1995 (Oxford University Press, 1996). Quote: "The stories of Frankenstein and The Sound of Music are mixed with contemporary social and political comment, humour and music." It looks like it was produced as a made-for-TV movie and was broadcast in Australia. I also found another mention in an article by Jones in The Sydney Morning Herald. There are additional books and magazines that mention it on GBooks but don't provide full access to the articles. Something interesting that might make a good hook because it is so unusual: according to the Australian film magazine Cinema Papers (March 1987), the made-for-TV-movie of Hound of Music involved "labor [that] was voluntary and production facilities [that] were donated" (p. 64). This is significant given the people involved (p. 76). That takes the cake for interesting and unusual. Now, it's just a matter of figuring out how to add all of this to the article. I still don't have the deets. Was it simply a film of the larger performance at the Princess Theatre? Or was it an adaptation? The current version of the article doesn't even mention it. @Viriditas: this was only nominated for DYK on 8 April, so there is a bit of time. TarnishedPathtalk 00:04, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • @Viriditas and TarnishedPath: It has been a while since there has been progress here, but apart from the lack of a new hook, the main issue is that the nominator has not edited since the day of the nomination. A new hook would still help and we can move forward regardless, but if there are issues found and they can't be addressed, then that is a problem. Should we wait for the nominator to return, should a new hook be proposed, and are either of you willing to adopt the nomination in the nominator's absence? @Narutolovehinata5: a lot of the sources are offline, and although they mostly appear to be newspapers which could probably be found in archives, I don't have the inclination to adopt this. TarnishedPathtalk 09:01, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Narutolovehinata5: I would like to salvage this, but it isn't easy to verify. So I'm a bit stumped. I will try to give it another go tomorrow. Viriditas (talk) 09:15, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Let us know if the nomination can still be rescued. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 14:03, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
