Hopea tenuivervula

[edit]

I think the article Hopea tenuivervula is a spelling mistake for this species. The Wikidata item d:Q5485991 indicates that the confusion has found its way into online databases. N.B. This is just an educated guess; I haven't been able to check how it was spelled on original publication. William Avery (talk) 07:23, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@William Avery: thanks for this and good catch. Yes, "tenuivervula" is almost certainly a spelling mistake. When originally published, in Gardens' Bulletin Singapore, the section on the new species was titled "Hopea tenuivervula", but elsewhere in the paper the species is referred to as "H. tenuinervula". In Tree Flora of Sabah and Sarawak, the name is explained as being derived from tenuis and nervulus, "slender little nerve". I think the erroneous section heading got picked up by e.g. IPNI, then others like IUCN took that name. Plants of the World Online seem to have corrected the name at some point, while still using the same record ID. Declangi (talk) 21:11, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
