Genshin Impact

@SuperGrey: I saw that you re-added back Genshin Impact in the release timeline of the Honkai series and your reasoning to it. While I do agree that Genshin is part of the Honkai-verse, is it really part of the Honkai franchise? If this page is solely about the media franchise and not the shared universe, I'm not sure whether or not I agree with adding Genshin in the release timeline, especially since Genshin is its own separate IP. Unless you view this page as both the media franchise and shared universe, then I suppose that's fine. RPC7778 (talk) 01:09, 4 September 2025 (UTC)

If we only consider the “franchise” in the narrowest sense and exclude Genshin Impact, then the FlyMe2theMoon would also get excluded, no? For now I think both of options are reasonable: to remove Genshin and FM2tM and make it franchise only, or to include both as in a more “Honkaiverse” point of view. I would prefer the latter though, as 1) for now there isn’t too many titles to show in the timeline, 2) even the in-game achievements in Honkai: Star Rail reference FM2tM as the roots of the franchise. And if the timeline gets longer and longer in the future, we could always go back to this discussion and remove the two less-relevant titles to save space. I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that the “Honkaiverse” idea makes things a bit fuzzy. That said, I think mixing franchise history with shared-universe interpretation is where I start to disagree. Even if we accept that Genshin takes place in the same broader multiverse, it’s still very clearly treated as its own IP. It’s branded separately, marketed separately, and never presented by HoYoverse as a Honkai title or entry in the Honkai series. From a reader’s perspective, seeing Genshin in a Honkai release timeline strongly implies it’s part of the Honkai franchise, which I don’t think is accurate. FlyMe2theMoon feels different to me. It’s not a Honkai game by name, but it’s very explicitly the origin of the Honkai series: same core character (Kiana), and later Honkai games directly acknowledge it as their starting point. So including FM2tM as a kind of proto-entry makes sense in a way that Genshin doesn’t. My concern with keeping Genshin in the timeline is where the line gets drawn. If shared-universe references are enough, then Tears of Themis (and potentially future HoYoverse titles) also start to qualify, and the timeline stops being about the Honkai franchise and becomes a HoYoverse multiverse list instead. I’m just reminding that this page is about the Honkai franchise, not the broader HoYoverse multiverse. Shared-universe links can (and probably should) be mentioned elsewhere on the page, but the release timeline should stay focused on Honkai-branded titles and their direct precursors, not every HoYoverse game with lore connections.
