Update on crime rate/murder rate statistics

The first section of the article contains the following sentence which is outdated, Honduras' murder rate has decreased since 2014 to 42.8 per 100,000 and Venezuela as of 2017 has the world's highest murder rate, so it should be updated:

"Honduras has the world's highest murder rate and high levels of sexual violence.[14][15]"

Proposed update: Honduras held once the highest murder rate in the world but has since lowered it by almost half, now at 42.8 murders per 100,000 inhabitants as of 2017. Authorities said that the 2017 figures marked Honduras’ lowest homicide levels in a decade.

Add needed citation on 4.2 Foreign Relations

"4.2 Foreign Relations - Honduras and Nicaragua had tense relations throughout 2000 and early 2001 due to a boundary dispute off the Atlantic coast. Nicaragua imposed a 35% tariff against Honduran goods due to the dispute." Music section: recommend links to Guillermo Anderson and Polache articles, add Banda Blanca

Guillermo Anderson and Polache are mentioned under music without links to corresponding articles by same name. Recommend adding reference to Banda Blanca as best known musical group, who's Spanish rendition of the song, Sopa de Caracol is one of the best known and most played popular songs in Honduras (perhaps other than Anderson's, En Mi Pais, often referred to as the Second National Anthem of Honduras), and played all over the world as well. --Catrachos (talk) 16:02, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

Listed ethnic percentages are inaccurate (Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 1 October 2021)

The ethnic percentages listed in the CIA World Factbook, at least for Honduras, are very unreliable and outdated.

The 2011 national Honduras census found that

80.9% of the population was Mestizo

10.2% identified as White only

5.7% identified as Indigenous only

3.8% identified as Black only

and 3.1% identified as some other race (Arabs and Asians)

The 2013 national Honduran census found that 82.93% of the population was Mestizo (or was a White or Black that identified as Mestizo)

7.87% of the population was White

7.25% of the population was Indigenous

around 1.39% of the population was Black (including Garifunas)

0.55% were identified as some other race

This is reflected in the Spanish Wikipedia articles, which uses official census and related reports for it's citations

The lack of consistency comes from the fact that, much like in Mexico, more and more White Hondurans simply identify as Mestizo. The "(mixed Indigeneous and White)" should be removed and a footnote added next to "Mestizo" addressing this discrepancy while keeping the White percentage separate. Although, they *could* also be combined as "Mestizo and White", as is the case in the English Wikipedia article of Costa Rica. Honduras

Honduras is a nice-looking place yes.....but the crime that goes on is not talked about. Women are targets there and they are being killed. As young as 13 years old, women, teens, and kids fear for there lives every day. Police do nothing for they don't have the same technology as new advanced countries such as the US have. It's a shame for people to be so worried about the Kardashians, the newest trend, and what happened to this celebrity. When there are kids, mothers, daughters,tias, cousins, and friends in fear for each other's lives. Indeed as of now the excerpt section of the Economy is taken from the Economy of Honduras's infobox and is broken (notice the double brackets there as well as the fact that by itself the information is not readable at all, there's a list of countries for no reason, a bunch of numbers which are not explained etc.)

I suggest that we scrap whatever this section was supposed to be, and instead fetch the Economy of Hondura's lead section there. Bly000 (talk) 11:48, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

@Lightoil: They're talking about this: The article has both {{Coord|15|00|N|86|30|W|display=title}}, which displays one set of coordinates at the top of the page, and, in the infobox, | coordinates = {{Coord|14|6|N|87|13|W|type:city}}. Spookycheems is saying that the former isn't correct—but didn't specify what is correct. Perhaps the coordinates in the infobox are correct, but I don't know. Besides that, it's my understanding that we shouldn't have the coordinates both inside and outside the infobox, so one of these should go away and the one that remains should have the correct values. Juan Orlando Hernández, former Honduran president (2014–2022), managed a corrupt government, causing massive institutional destruction, debt, and other issues. The majority of the population is not educated, making it difficult to develop as a country through smart and impactful decisions in the fast-changing world. Lastly, the lack of market development holds the country back from economic growth. Honduras' main income comes from agriculture, concentrated in rural areas—also the poorest areas of the country. This means a lack of innovation, modernization, technology, and efficiency, making it difficult to expand into other markets and compete in the agriculture sector.

Proposal to change where for Mestizo on the front page where it shows a break down of the ethnic groups in honduras

So where it shows the breakdown of ethnic groups in Honduras it says “Mixed indigenous and Spanish” I would like to state why it should say “mixed Indigenous, European, and African” or simple “Mestizo”. First reason if you see online you will see that genetic testing has revealed that the majority of Hondurans (the ones that identify as mestizo) actually have significant African ancestry usually ranging from 15-25% on average so u would like to say that it is not accurate for it to say that mestizo Hondurans are strictly Euro-Indigenous when in reality we are very diversely mixed. I know that “oh mestizo means euro-indigenous” but it’s true we are mixed with African as wel not just Euro-indigenous. In the Dominican Republic they identify as mestizo as well but you can’t tell they aren’t obviously mixed with African as well. Mestizo means very different things in many different ways it’s not strictly how it was like in the 1600s when the Spanish created the Caste system. Lede is way too bulky

This definitely needs to be shortened. There is no mention at all of Honduras's early history, literally nothing at all relating to indigenous residents and its history under Spain and the Central American Federation. There is an extensive paragraph detailing the context of the past five elections in a row, which is wildly overspecific for a lede section. There's also an entire sentence dedicated to alleged intervention by the United States in one singular election, which reeks of partisanship since the allegations were almost entirely made by the losing party and denounced by international observers. Regardless of veracity, however, that sentence is better used on the page 2025 Honduran general election, not the lede for Honduras itself (also, the claim that Nasry Asfura won isn't even true since the race has not been called yet).
