I'll read over the article and leave any notes I have in the next day or two. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 06:13, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Vacant0, the article looks good! My only significant concern is that some of the details about the gameplay are unclear or lack context. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 17:54, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Okay, it looks like things have been addressed where feasible except for the image. Once that's uploaded as non-free, this should meet the good article criteria. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 20:31, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

It's done now. Thanks for the nice review. Vacant0 (talk contribs) 16:23, 18 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lead:

  • The lead doesn't cover much about the game's development, including the Kickstarter campaign and the subsequent releases.
    • I've expanded the lede with more material about the game's development.
  • A list of similar games and a list of factions seem like minor details for the lead. The significance of character packs is also unclear. These seem like typical RPG classes.
    • I've cut some parts of the lede.

Gameplay:

  • All claims in this section are verified by the sources.
  • File:Hero Realms gameplay.jpg primarily depicts art from the game, so it falls under non-free use.
    • Should I upload a non-free version here and request a speedy deletion on Commons?
  • It says there are "role-playing elements" but doesn't specify what these are.
    • The sources sadly do not go into depth regarding this. If you want, I can remove it.
  • The significance of factions is not explained.
    • Done.
  • a shortsword, dagger, or a card bought from the market – What distinguishes cards from the market from shortswords and daggers?
    • A shortsword and dagger are given to the player at the start of the game.
  • It's not clear what champions are for, or what distinguishes guards and non-guards.
    • Done.
  • I suggest "The game's rules are similar to those of other deck-building games like..." so it's clear what's being compared here.
    • Done.
  • The purpose of character packs is not specified, and the article could be clearer that they are sold separately (right now it's only implied with "base game").
    • Done.
  • Although the game is free-to-play, it features microtransactions – I wouldn't include "although" since microtransactions are commonly associated with free-to-play.
    • Done.

Development and release:

  • "After developing Star Realms..." – A year would be helpful for context.
    • Done.
  • How successful were the respective Kickstarter campaigns?
    • I wanted to include a reference to Kickstarter but it seems to be deprecated from use on Wikipedia. Beyond that, I found no mentions on the success of the game on that platform.
  • Is there any more information about Hero Realms Dungeons?
    • Sadly, no.

Reception:

  • Do any of the cited sources explicitly say that Hero Realms was positively received overall? Right now the wording implies that this is a general consensus among gaming criticism as a whole, but we only hear from three.
    • No, I was not able to find a such source. I've read through the three reviews and saw that they have said that they liked the game so I did that.
  • I know that reception sections can be finicky, but "very fun to play" doesn't really convey much, and the wording doesn't seem so important that it needs to be an exact quote.
    • Removed.
  • The game's additional character packs were also commended. – By whom?
    • Done.
  • There are two separate comments about it being good for beginners. It might be worth grouping them.
    • Done.
  • Do the Golden Geek Awards warrant a mention? It looks like the nominees and winners are chosen by users.
    • I'm not sure about that. It might be, but I cannot find what you're saying. However, if you want, I can remove it altogether.

References:

  • All sources appear to be reliable for the claims they support.
  • Looking at the sources, it seems like there's more info about the game that's not in the article. There's a bunch about what makes it distinct from similar games in the genre, including what they changed from Star Realms and what makes it distinct from other deck builders.
    • Done.
