Unsourced claims

[edit]

Hi @Autoeditor123, please can you provide a reliable source for the claim you made in this edit summary as a justification for undoing my previous reversion of similar unsourced claims? To comply with Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people, claims like this really need to be supported by reliable sources. Pineapple Storage (talk) 15:05, 19 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Podcast & reddit yesterday and a few months ago someone else mentioned it wasn't true. Someone said you reversed their edit so just checked and added the note.

Happy to reverse it if it misses policy Autoeditor123 (talk) 08:50, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Autoeditor123 Thank you for posting those links and explaining your edit!
Reddit is totally user-generated, so according to Wikipedia's guidelines it is unacceptable as a source; neither of those threads cites any actual sources at all, let alone reliable ones. Aside from that, the first thread is not serious, and is based on an in-joke from the podcast. The second thread is pure speculation, and Wikipedia is not the place for rumours.
For further explanation, I would recommend taking a look at Wikipedia's official guideline on Biographies of Living Persons (BLPs), which can be found here; the most relevant part is the bit about the higher standards for sources used in BLPs (§ Reliable sources), and specifically the bit about gossip (§ Avoid gossip and feedback loops).
It may not technically be a violation of WP:BLP to remove the mentions of Paker being married, as the sourcing wasn't particularly solid to begin with (no independent sources explicitly state that they were ever married, let alone that they're still together). However, their most recent mentions of their relationship (eg. on social media: this Tweet from 2015) are that they're married, and my gut feeling is that we should not be editing BLPs based on Reddit speculation. If reliable sources say they've split up—or the individuals themselves publicly say it—then that's a different matter.
(A side note, from my personal perspective as a listener of the podcast: the second thread doesn't really hold water anyway. It's unreasonable to assume that they've split up just because Paker doesn't mention Hayes; none of the beans regularly talk about their partners. And we're supposed to believe a random anonymous Reddit user when they say that a friend of theirs went on a date with someone? Hmm. 🤨) Pineapple Storage (talk) 12:13, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thats useful. Thank you! Shall we revert? Autoeditor123 (talk) 13:25, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not super well-versed in BLP issues so I think it's probably best to see if anyone has any thoughts (following my query at WT:BIOG). Pineapple Storage (talk) 16:12, 20 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
