Why does WorldCat say Henry Conrad Brockmeyer?

[edit]

Is there some aspect of Brockmeyer's life that accounts for his different middle name in WorldCat? See https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJjmQrVrcCYWJKGYTqKWXd. Bobby Noble (talk) 10:18, 21 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Well, that was his original middle name; as the article says, he was born Heinrich Conrad Brokmeyer. Like a number of immigrants, I suppose, he used various forms of his name at various times, but in his public life he was generally Henry Clay Brockmeyer or just Henry C. Brockmeyer. His gravestone actually reverts to the "Brokmeyer" spelling without the "c", you can find him there as "Henry Conrad Brokmeyer" on Findagrave. Confusing.
