Helm not Helmet!

To be accurate, whenever a helmet covers the entire face, regardless of whether it has a visor or not, it should be called a helm, not helmet. Helmets are similar except the face is not covered. SCGhosthunter1 15:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Pickelhaube protection

The text now claims that the spikes on early German helmets, or Pickelhauben, "...saved many soldiers by diverting sideways otherwise mortal sabre blows to the head." This statement appears to be little more than pure speculation or mythmaking, so a citation is necessary to back up this claim or it will be removed. Jack Bethune 10:55, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Franz Kafka

Picture gallery

Huge picture galleries are not encouraged and needed (as per WP:NOTREPOSITORY and WP:MOS#Images). That is why there is Commons and a prominent link to it (at the bottom of the page). Furthermore, no links are needed to common words asp er MOS:LINK. -- P199 (talk) 17:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Other languages

By using an instruction as [[it:xxxx]] it is ossible to refer to the same article in another language. However, in this case, the English word Helmet refers to four different terms in Italian, that is Elmo (Helm + Ancient Combat Helmet), Elmetto (Modern Combat Helmet), Casco (Some Sport Helmet + Motobike Helmet), and Caschetto (Bycicle Helmet). At the moment only the third one is referred by using [[it:Casco]], but this is not correct, since the English article contains info related to all those different kind of "Helmets".

So, how to manage this situation, here and in general? That is, when there is not a bidirectional correspondence between different languages? Please, note that this is different from using a diasmbiguation page since in Italian Helmet is translated using different terms.--Dejudicibus (talk) 07:06, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Article or list

British police

I believe the Custodian Helmet, to use the correct name, wasn't purely for "Ceremonial or symbolic" purposes. The originals, made of pith, were hard and gave some protection (else why did the exist). Could someone resolve this? Humpster (talk) 13:40, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

Sports mentioned in introduction

I suggest the sports be limited to those in which all participants are likely to wear helmets: ice hockey, rock climbing, American football, and riding for example, but not baseball or cricket (yet).
