Just a brief note to acknowledge that Hector Macpherson, Jr. is my great uncle. I am writing this on my own based on published sources. Macpherson's published memoir (which I cite) is on file for public inspection in the Special Collections department at Valley Library, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon.
