In my experience the term "Gang Saw" usually refers to the gang edger, which is not used for primary breakdown of log blocks. The gang occurs after the primary breakdown, and converts cants into boards. As I understand it, the term "gang" refers to the fact that there are multiple saws, allowing for simultaneous breakdown of the cant. A very common modern configuration is to have twin bandsaws as the primary breakdown, followed by the gang edger. DouglasSimpsonReed (talk) 05:01, 5 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

A gang edger is a lumber edger yes it has many saws. While gang saw is a machine in itself . The terminology here is a bit confused: head saw is the first saw to handle the log. While gang saw was just several saws in parallel. Initially it was just several sash saws on a single frame. Staszek Lem (talk) 21:35, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
