Anomalous sentence

In the introductory section the last sentence reads: Both villages form the main of the civil parish of Great Hanwood. However the only village mentioned hitherto is Hanwood itself. The sentence makes no sense unless there is another village named. I have therefore amended it to begin Hanwood village forms...Cloptonson (talk) 07:55, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Retired detail (section Community media)

I have decided to retire this detail on grounds it is out of date and there is no certainty the paper version of the magazine (which was withdrawn in 2020 when the Covid19 pandemic made deliveries inadvisable) will be revived:

St Thomas' Parish Magazine for Hanwood & Cruckton, produced by the local parish church, is published ten months of the year, incorporating a parish diary page that is also given free separately to households that do not take the paid magazine and newsletter from Hanwood Parish Council.

There is presently a Benefice magazine that covers Hanwood as well as Longden, Annscroft and Pulverbatch, but is not produced from Hanwood/Cruckton. Cloptonson (talk) 10:43, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

From the same section I have retired this detail on grounds it is out of date - the figure on the number of households is pre-housing developments of the later 2010s - it has not been issued for several years. Its former editor died this month.

The Hanwood & Cruckton Herald is a newsletter distributed free to all 550 households in Hanwood and Cruckton four times a year with an associated website (). The newsletter and website editor is Professor Bob Scott.

Hanwood United F.C. - paragraph retired

I have decided to retire this paragraph which is unsourced and could do with updating as near as possible to 2026:

The team currently play in the West Midlands (Regional) League's Division One. They were the Shropshire County League champions for the 2007–8 season and have since been promoted again to reach their present position at Step 7 of the English football pyramid. (They also won the County League in the 2005–6 and 2006–7 seasons but chose not to change leagues.) The Reserve side currently play in the Mercian Regional Football League's Division One.

There is no mention of Hanwood United in the wiki article on the West Midlands (Regional) League, nor in that on the Mercian Regional Football League whose list of Division One teams only applies to 2018-19.Cloptonson (talk) 14:26, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Atherton and Bishop

@Cloptonson: When were Bishop Close and Atherton Rise built - in honour of William(?)/Leonard(?) Bishop and Walter Atherton? It seems that the new images of Hanwood on Google Street View have superseded the old Street View images - which to my memory had very clear "Road Closed" signs obscuring them!

I have William Bishop's death date nailed on as May 11, 1915, Leonard Bishop's death date as October 7, 1916, and Atherton's death date down as December 30, 1917. Are these all correct? Bobo. 21:53, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

You have the correct date for when Walter Atherton was killed but, having checked with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's database, there are corrections regarding the Bishops' dates killed - Leonard was killed on 31 July 1917, on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele, aka the Third Battle of Ypres, while William was killed, in the Spring Offensive, on 28 March 1918. The housing development the roads are part of, called Hanwood Heights, began no earlier than 2018 as it was still fields when I moved near to the site.Cloptonson (talk) 07:44, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
