"Gameplay Nausea"

A trait that is unique due to the realness of the HL2 engine is that many people have reported nausea/vertigo when initially playing this game. The movements, screen resolution and physics all have been incited as a cause to many people getting 'sea sick' while playing this game.

The "Mid 2001" demo was not from 2001

This is flat out incorrect, there are multiple screenshots of builds of the game from november 2000 to prove this to be incorrect alongside emails from valve employees to fans where they describe this demo as happening in 2000. Not to mention the fact it was shown at SIGGRAPH 2000, so either valve are time travelling or this is incorrect. 2 people (myself included) have tried to correct this mistake and have been reverted for no reason despite what it was being reverted to being factually incorrect. Hello @Popcornfud. I’m surprised to encounter the author of the false titles essay. Thank you for writing it; I can’t stand them either. Can you direct me to any linking-policy or discussion that confirms what you said in your edit summary? I was under the impression that article titles generally use the most common names (only not doing so when it is legally inadvisable or overturned by pedantic editors). Indeed, in the most recent discussion about moving Microsoft Windows editors described it as the correct and common name.

Glad you like the false titles essay. A lot of people don't.

Regarding Windows/Microsoft Windows — "Windows" reflects the common usage in sources and storefronts etc, it reflects our treatment of other platforms (eg we write Xbox and not Microsoft Xbox), and it's also how Microsoft writes it (see their style guide here).

In my opinion, the Wikipedia article title Microsoft Windows only makes sense as a natural disambiguator from window, but even then I think Windows would be the better title. Popcornfud (talk) 16:22, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

Why isn't the 2024 documentary ever cited?

I mean, sure, it's a primary source, so Wikipedia has to call its credibility in some areas into question. However, as a tool to learn about the game's development, it's a super useful firsthand account. Seeing as the "Development" section cites TFH in literally every other sentence, with a few other sources sprinkled in between in the later parts, I feel like the documentary could really help improve the section. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCjNT9qGjh4

I'd argue that TFH is a secondary source - it's written by an independent journalist, albeit one who had expansive access to the project's development (so you could argue it's not perfectly independent, but can access journalism be independent?). In this case, the solution is to use secondary sources that have reported on the documentary, which neatly solves both the question of "what in this documentary is notable?" and the issue with it being a primary source. 9yz (talk) 07:48, 25 December 2025 (UTC)
