Wilson noted that the term "Half-Earth" was coined for this concept by Tony Hiss in his Smithsonian article "Can the World Really Set Aside Half the Planet for Wildlife?"

I just started this book, but I hope to clear up the timeline. This idea greatly predates the 2016 publication, and Hiss’s 2014 article. I first heard it sometime in the late 1980s, early 1990s. Viriditas (talk) 09:41, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wilson says he first proposed the idea in 2002 in The Future of Life, but that doesn’t explain why people were talking about much earlier. Still looking… Viriditas (talk) 23:00, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
