[edit]The paragraph beginning "He defined “haikai spirit” as following" appears to have been lifted verbatim from p.180 of Early Modern Japanese Literature: An Anthology, 1600-1900, by Haruo Shirane and James T. Araki, Columbia University Press, 2004, ISBN 9780231109918, so I've removed it.
Proposed restore
[edit]This edit effectively made the article a duplicate of renku. The assertion which appears to draw a distinction between renku and haikai, "A modern-day equivalent, similar to ''haikai'', is [[renku]] (haikai no renga)<ref name=hsa>[http://www.hsa-haiku.org/archives/HSA_Definitions_2004.html HSA definitions page]</ref>" is based on a misreading of the cited source, which states, "In Japanese, "renku" is a modern equivalent for haikai no renga", meaning that the word 'renku' in modern Japanese means 'haikai no renga', not that renku is a modern form of haikai no renga, as stated in the article. There is thus no distinction between haikai no renga and renku, and to avoid article duplication this article should revert to the status quo ante.
