Duplicate Chathams in 1790?

[edit]

Is it likely that the RN would have two four-gun Chathams in 1790? Perhaps this is an error in the article. rewinn 06:09, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

No error, they're both listed in J. J. Colledge. Overlapping ship names in the same period were not uncommon. Benea (talk) 00:43, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Namesake

[edit]

Seems dubious that all of these were named after the town or shipyards when Earls of Chatham served as prime minister and as first lords of the Admiralty.  LlywelynII 22:47, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
