The recent expansion of this article has left it somewhat unbalanced. The section on "Lithology and stratigraphy" interprets the mixture of lithologies in the group as resulting from sedimentary processes. The newly added section presents an alternative view, in which the sequence is a result of imbrication in an accretionary wedge, without commenting on the major difference in interpretation. Other views also exist - Santolik et al. (2025)[1] agree that the sequence represents an OPS, but have failed to find some of the stratigraphic contacts proposed by Asanuma et al. (2015) and don't support all of their interpretation. Schofield et al. (2021)[2] no longer recognise the Gwna Group, instead assigning most of these rocks to the Bodorgan Formation of their Aberffraw Terrane. This article needs to be rewritten to incorporate all these observations and interpretations in a balanced way, which I will attempt to do at some point.
