Please do not add scrupulous claims like this. If you have a reference, please reference it. As far as I know, there is "NO" scientific evidence that states that ambanis are descendents of Gupta's.

Baidya Gupta and Kayastha Gupta

Hey Ekdalian can you please provide the quote which is referring to that In the Bengal region the surname is used by Kayasthas after Brahmins as you have claimed in the edit summary. As far as I have seen Inden is talking about the traditional accounts of Kayasthas and in all probability has considered Genealogies. Kulinism or Surname can be found in Genealogical works. There are no primary sources at the time of Sena dynasty which have depicted kulinism or related information. All process is initiated in Genealogical works. Hello Satnam2408, I have never claimed what you think I have! IMHO, Baidyas are the ones (in Bengal) who are commonly associated with the surname; therefore, this should be mentioned either in the beginning of the relevant para or at the end (in order to emphasize the same, as we usually do). Hey Ekdalian, after consulting with some other sources, I am not getting any definite chronological order. Brahmins had the earliest reference. I think the best conclusion would be to mention both in a single line, like this "In the Bengal region the surname is found among Baidyas(mainly) and Kayasthas" - in the next information of earliest reference of Brahmins of the Rampal plate. Gupta dynasty

I don't understand why Gupta emperors and other notable figures from ancient times are included in this article, considering that the 'Gupta' suffix during that era was not used as a distinct surname in the way it is today, quoting Tej Ram Sharma:

In Sri Gupta 'Sri' is an honorific term as in the case of other Gupta emperors mentioned in the inscriptions. Had the name of the first king been 'Sri Gupta', it would have been mentioned as Sri Sri Gupta as we find in the case of the name of Srimati in the Deo-Barnark Inscription of Jivitagupta II. If we accept that Gupta was the name of the first king of the family we may dismiss the possibility of the Gupta ending signifying a surname.
