Actually I think it was “Pierre Martin St Hillaire Begorrat” I believe but I could be wrong, most sources only call him Begorrat KeyolTranslater (talk) 14:24, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

There may be some confusion. Pearse says "Pierre Begorrat came to Trinidad from Martinique in the year 1784 with his son St. Hillaire. The estate on which the cave is situated is shown on Mallet's Survey Map (1797) as belonging to Begorrat, probably the son. Already at this early date he was one of the most powerful of the pianiers. According to an anecdote current 100 years ago, Picton soon after he became Military Governor of the island at its capitulation in 1797, is said to have called the Cabildo together,"

While The Civil and Rhythm and Blues Goes Calypso both say Pierre owned Gros Jean. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:11, 5 October 2025 (UTC)

Perhaps he was owned by both, but the crueler one was the original, so I believe it is Pierre then. KeyolTranslater (talk) 15:34, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
