Quite interesting, but isn't Grey Peas also a quite well known traditional dish in the Black Country? Like mentioned here as recipe? Found it on more than one pub menue (like at the Great Western in Wolverhampton). Similar it's known in some northern parts of Germany at least since the early 1600's.
