Edit request: update credits, fix SNL dates, add sources

[edit]

Hello — I'm Greg Scarnici, the subject of this article, so I'm requesting these changes here rather than editing directly. The proposed revision is below. Summary of changes:

  • Adds my executive producer credit on the 2026 HBO documentary Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story, sourced to the HBO/Warner Bros. Discovery press release, the Tribeca Festival listing, and independent coverage (The Queer Review, Autostraddle).
  • Corrects the statement that I've been associated with Saturday Night Live "since 2014"; my SNL credits go back to Saturday Night Live 25 (1999).
  • Updates "As of 2025" to current.
  • Removes an uncited claim (Slate), removes a duplicated sentence, and tones down promotional wording ("first gained fame").
  • Adds an infobox and section headings.

I'd welcome any editor replacing the IMDb/YouTube citations with stronger sources where possible. Thank you. ~~~~

Greg Scarnici (born April 8, 1972) is an American television producer, director, writer, musician, DJ and drag performer. He is a senior associate producer at Saturday Night Live and was an executive producer of the 2026 HBO documentary Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story.[1] He is also known for his comedic music video parodies and for performing in drag as the character Levonia.

Early life

[edit]

Scarnici was born in Jamaica, Queens, and is based in New York City.

Career

[edit]

Television

[edit]

Scarnici has worked on Saturday Night Live since the late 1990s; his associate producer credits include the anniversary special Saturday Night Live 25 (1999), the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Halftime Special (2003) and Saturday Night Live: 40th Anniversary Special (2015).[2][3] As of 2026, he is a senior associate producer on the series, where he has also contributed jokes and promos.[2]

His other associate producer credits include the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular and the 2014 NBA All-Star Pre-Game Concert.[2] He has appeared on 30 Rock, Nick Cannon's Short Circuitz, Straight Plan for the Gay Man and Saturday Night Live.[2]

Documentary

[edit]

Scarnici was an executive producer, alongside Claire Demere, of Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story, a documentary about the New York public-access television host Robin Byrd. Directed by Jyllian Gunther and Stephanie Schwam and produced by Sarah Jessica Parker's Pretty Matches Productions, the film had its world premiere in the Documentary Competition at the 2026 Tribeca Festival and debuted on HBO on June 30, 2026.[1][4] The directors have described Scarnici as one of Byrd's closest friends.[5] The film received positive reviews.[6]

Film

[edit]

Scarnici's film credits include the 2000 independent film Glam-Trash and the short films Dead End and Children of the Dune.[2]

Online video

[edit]

Scarnici's music video parodies were featured on Anderson Cooper 360, Fox News Channel, MTV, VH1's Best Week Ever and in Entertainment Weekly;[7] by 2016 they had been viewed more than ten million times on YouTube.[8]

Writing and photography

[edit]

Scarnici has been a contributing writer for The Huffington Post.[9] His first collection of comedic essays, I Hope My Mother Doesn't Read This, was published by Thought Catalog Books in 2015.[10] A second collection, Dungeons and Drag Queens, about his experiences on Fire Island, followed in March 2019.[11]

He created Sex in Drag, a parody of Madonna's book Sex, photographed entirely on Fire Island in 2010,[12] and Hot Rods (2020), a parody of a 1970s gay men's magazine, also shot on Fire Island.

Music

[edit]

In 2009, Scarnici released 12 Inch Freak, a collection of comedic dance tracks that includes "Gimme More (Pills)", a parody of Britney Spears's "Gimme More".[13] He also produces house music under his own name and, with Joe Thompson, as the duo Undercover,[14] whose self-titled debut album was released in 2012, followed by Night Beats in 2015.

As his drag character Levonia, Scarnici has released music including the 2013 single "So Cunt", which Jezebel called the summer jam of that year.[15][16]
