• • According to this article, Njazidja is called an erroneous spelling of its official name. However, on the official website for the President of the Comoros (www.beit-salam.km), the island's name is written in this manner.

I don't know if this is the right place to reply to the above, but the confusion arises from the transliteration of the Arabic character 'jim', usually rendered in English as 'j'. In some Arabic variants this is pronounced as the English 'j' but in others (eg Egyptian Arabic) is it a hard 'g'. The 'g' Ngazidja is hard, so the original rendering of the name into Arabic script was clearly done by someone who spoke Egyptian Arabic (or similar). They wouldn't have used a 'qaf' because although 'qaf' sounds more like a 'g' in some variants of Arabic, it is more 'k' in Egyptian. Then, when transliterating back to Latin script, the 'jim' was rendered as a 'j', as is customary, giving Njazidja. Incorrectly, of course, since a 'j' is never pronounced like a hard 'g' in English, or in any other language using the Latin script afaik. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ngazidja (talk • contribs) 11:07, 27 March 2026 (UTC)

The smaller islands of the comoros have bigger wikipedia pages than the biggest island that literally houses the nation's capital. There should be more paragraphs for this page (e.g. like a demographics paragraph, a geography paragraph.) Crenshire (talk) 13:07, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Page name

Grande Comore is the French name for this island, but the page is in English. Given that the English name for the island (Comoro) is no longer widely used outside East Africa, the article should use the island's official name, Ngazidja, with a redirect from "Grande Comore"?
