Source: Grove Art Online: "The simmering tensions within intimate relationships is the real underlying theme of works such as Spider with Mushroom Soup (1982–3; London, AC England Col.), in which the phallic extension of a can opener is thrust into an opened tin whose sharp and jagged edges turn it into the psychologically threatening image of a ‘vagina dentata’.
