Was Steve Olvey mistaken in saying that Gordon was a Texan? --MartinUK (talk) 13:43, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Death - unnecessary detail

[edit]

Do we really need the blood and gore in this section? It contributes nothing positive to the article, irrespective of the source. We all know from the article that the crash was both fatal and extremely violent and that Gordon Smiley died instantly. Let’s just leave it at that. Anyone ghoulish enough to want the graphic detail can find it anywhere. Encyclopaedic content doesn’t usually dwell on these things. Furthermore, any family member reading it would likely find it upsetting. Flanker235 (talk) 14:58, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Last race?

[edit]

Is the 1982 Indy 500 correct as his last race? He didn’t qualify and didn’t run in it (because he was killed in qualifying). Sean Barnett (talk) 15:29, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Seanbarnett: By convention, the First/Last race fields are populated with the first/last race for which the driver was entered. They don't need to have started the race. DH85868993 (talk) 22:51, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
