The interaction between gold and oxygen
[edit]From the 3rd paragraph, first sentence in the wikipedia gold compounds article: "Gold does not react with oxygen at any temperature[4] and, up to 100 °C, is resistant to attack from ozone.[5]"
If oxygen, in it's diatomic form, O2, does not interact with gold, but oxygen in it's triatomic form, O3 or ozone, interacts above 100 °C, than oxygen does react with gold at certian temperatures and in certian forms.
I couldn't open citation 4 to verify what information it may contian. For citation 5, I found other information that does not support the above statement in the gold compound article, one statement on page 584 of the book reference: Gold. Gold is resistant to oxygen to its melting point of 1063 °C (1945°F). And, another on page 587: Gold. Gold is resistant to ozone up to 100°C (212°F).
Both of statements from reference 5 suggust that oxygen does interact with gold depending on the temperature and form of both substances. 76.130.56.50 (talk) 05:06, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
