"Heroic Journalist"

I removed that sentence "Levy has been hailed as a 'heroic journalist' by some" because in order to use the quote "heroic journalist" and attribute it to "some," it can't just be that one person wrote it. See WP:WEASEL. The revision is slightly better, but I am wondering if having the quote "heroic journalist" is NPOV. After all, it was said by one person and it is being used in the intro to make a generalizing statement. This belong in the "Praise" section, not the intro.

My suggested revsion: "Levy has won prizes for his articles on human rights in the Israeli occupied territories and has been received praise for his work." Eym174 (talk) 06:09, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

A direct quote is almost always attributed to one person, and it is certainly appropriate for inclusion in the lead, as long as the quote reflects a significant aspect of the article. In the case of this article, that is certainly true. Levy has been praised extensively for his journalism both in Israel and internationally. Therefore a quote representing that praise is certainly in order in the lead.

It is also true that there is a significant group of Israelis, all of similar political orientation, who despise Levy. Their viewpoint, though not shared by anyone outside of Israel, also deserves mention in the lead. Including both the praise and the criticism, with the proper weight, makes the lead neutral. I just noticed “He has received death threats.” with a citation that is a Haaretz article with the headline “Meanwhile, Gideon Levy Receives a Death Threat”. It is paywalled so without a subscription I cannot check the article to see if it mentions other death threats.

If it’s just the one reference to the one threat then avoiding WP:WEASEL requires something along the lines of “Haaretz has reported that Levy received a death threat.. (more detail perhaps)”. 49.185.181.164 (talk) 07:38, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

That article only refers to one particularly sophisticated death threat, but if you google for "Gideon Levy" and "death threats" you will find many sources including some citable ones. An additional source needs to be added to the article, that's all. Zero^talk 09:29, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

The article says "During its journey, the ship was strafed by Royal Air Force planes, killing two passengers". I believe this is taken from here, which says "His Majesty’s planes flew threateningly overhead. At one point the British shot and killed two passengers." He doesn't say that the planes shot, only that the British shot, and "at one point" is too imprecise to place the incident in time. A more likely version is in this German source, which says (rough translation):

"With its 1417 people on board, it arrived off Tel Aviv on September 1st, the day the war broke out in Europe. After the Greek captain and crew had left the ship, it headed for the coast under the leadership of Levi Schwartz, but it was stopped about half a nautical mile from the beach by the guard boat LORNA. Without paying attention to the stop signals and despite the LORNA machine gun fire in which two immigrants were killed, Schwartz stranded the TIGER HILL near Sukria, near Tel Aviv."
