Question regarding archive links and verifiability

I’ve noticed some inconsistencies in recent manual edits to the citations: Rüger (2004): The archive URL was removed, even though most other references in this article maintain archive links for long-term stability. Eisenstein (1980): My update providing a working archive link was replaced with a version that has no link at all. Since this is a High-Importance GA, shouldn't we prioritize working archive links per WP:DEADREF to prevent link rot and ensure WP:V? I'm happy to adapt to a specific formatting style, but removing working/archived URLs in favor of missing ones hinders the article's quality. What is the preferred consensus here? Archives generally should not be included for convenience links, particularly where there are persistent identifiers - Special:BookSources provides access to a variety of sources for a reader to select from. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:43, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
