[edit]

Is there any nation that the Georgians are related to???

Why use medieval kings as an illustration for a contemporary ethnicity of 5 million non-medieval kings?

[edit]
This might be a more fitting image

@Emperor of Emperors

Your ex-Sovok Majesty, would you have the kindness of explaining this revert with something else than WP:STABLE?

Your humble servant, Shoshin000 (talk) 10:26, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please read WP:CIVIL, WP:NOT, and utilize a respectful language. I call on you to apologize for your pejorative slur that you used by calling me an "ex-Sovok". An emperor 01:58, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Complete agreement with emperor. Your slur use is also very inappropriate. I think you should be reported if this behavior continues.
As for illustrations, I think historical personages was used because it is more abstract. There was decision made by encylopedia long time ago against montage of everyday people from various nations because it was seen as too prone to bias. Also, history and art make big part of what defines Georgians as they understand themselves and culture, so nothing wrong with using medieval fresco from some of the most formative periods for nation.--LeontinaVarlamonva (talk) 03:59, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Emperor of Emperors Your non-admin Majesty, I apologize for preposterously seeing Soviet proletarians in your pedigree, a gravely incongruous affront towards a blue-blooded magnificence such as yourself, whose noble descent from kings and queens has nothing in common whatsoever with such people. Please don't put my head on a stick, I beg for your mercy on my knees.
All this joking aside.

Perhaps understandable, one can argue the processes of selection and non-selection are subjective.
history and art make big part of what defines Georgians as they understand themselves and culture, so nothing wrong with using medieval fresco from some of the most formative periods for nation
And this statement, on the other hand, is not subjected to bias of any kind?
Can I perhaps add paintings of Vikings on the article for Swedes? Or of Attila the Hun on the article for Hungarians? Shoshin000 (talk) 14:43, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not very relevant comparison with Vikings, who did not have clear nationality and span many countries. In this case these are clearly Georgian historic figures and relevant.
And your tone still not appropriate despite being cautioned. You should stop this kind of communication with other contributors.--LeontinaVarlamonva (talk) 16:53, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
To go a little off-topic, Vikings were a subgroup of Norsemen, the common ancestors of all modern Scandinavians. I also mentioned Attila: A few centuries after him, an Uralic people conquered the Pannonian basin and implanted themselves as the elite, with their language evolving into modern Hungarian. But are the modern Hungarians really their descendants? Ethiopian Jews claim to descend from Abraham and Dan. Do they? The Kalash people in the mountains of Pakistan claim a lineage from Alexander. Who knows if it's true?
Back to the topic: In the same vein, I find it dubiously relevant to use frescos depicting the Bagrationi elite from the 12th century, 900 years ago, to illustrate the modern 21st century ethnicity. Even admitting that we are talking about the exact same unmixed people, why would it be more relevant than contemporary images of contemporary people? And if you really get a kick out of centuries old art, why not art depicting common folk? Shoshin000 (talk) 11:23, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
There's no requirement that "common" people should be depicted. Before encylocpedia decided to remove old ethnic galleries, pretty much everybody shown was not "common" but rather famous or accomplished people. Based on how you interact with my fellow editor in this discussion, I start to think you have some kind of personal animus on non-common people? This is not place to wage class struggle and its not WP:SOAP, so please interact with others with civility.
Also, that fresco is from 16th century, not 12th century, so they are not quite as mythical people as you make them sound.--LeontinaVarlamonva (talk) 02:45, 11 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
There's no requirement that royal frescos should be depicted either. Why don't you answer my question? Shoshin000 (talk) 09:36, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I can't quite tell if there are only 2 people involved in this discussion but I will allow a possible exception and comment from Third Opinion anyways. I think there is nothing wrong with the current picture used at the top. I checked out numerous other similar pages and found no particular pattern in what the top image is. As this article includes the history of Georgians, including the time period in the fresco it is acceptable to use. The other picture is good too so I think it should also be included in the article by the way. Moritoriko (talk) 01:53, 19 June 2026 (UTC) Moritoriko (talk) 01:53, 19 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

It's not that crazy of an idea, you know. Plenty of examples on articles like Azerbaijanis, Hemshin people, Yazidis, Macedonian Muslims, Sorbs, Marathi people, Coloureds, Andamanese, Javanese, Chuvash people, Chukchi people, etc etc Shoshin000 (talk) 14:26, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Colchian civilization

[edit]

Please expand on the Colchian civilization as it’s the primary root of ancestry followed by the Iberians. ~2026-34250-47 (talk) 16:41, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Dabnote removal

[edit]

Two editors persistently removing a completely valid hatnote

with an irrelevant objections of kind "that is an irrelevant trivial RD" - which has no validity in Wikipedia: disambiguation rules do not care about relative importance of subjects, as long as they can be referred to with the same word. --Altenmann >talk 01:33, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Greetings colleague. It is irrelevant as stated. Do we DISAMB Peter Magyar to Hungarians? Regards, An emperor 01:59, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes we do, but using a different way, see "Magyar". Please do familiarize yourself with WP:DAB and MOS:DAB. If we have three or more meanings for the same word, we create a special disambiguation page, such as "Magyar". If only two different meanings, we place a "redirect" WP:DABNOTE on the article with primary subject, i.e., at the article which readers most probably want to find. Still, people way want to find Alexander Kartveli, but they remember only his surname, and DABNOTE helps them. --Altenmann >talk 03:57, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Dear colleague, I appreciate your input but I do know well how DISAMB works. RD is trivial and not prominent to be used for nation's REF. Regards, An emperor 04:11, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Pease show me the wikipedia rule that supports your position. --Altenmann >talk 14:44, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

One possible solution is to reconsider how Kartveli is currently redirected. Why should it be redirecting to Georgian people when this word has no wide recognition by English speakers? I think "Kartveli" can go directly to this persons biography or a disambiguation page if there are more people than him that have this name.--LeontinaVarlamonva (talk) 23:03, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I did consider the possibility of dab page. Unfortunately, there are only two targets, and I doubt that Alexander Kartveli is better known for English readers. Not to say, there are quite a few businesses and brands named "Kartveli", and if a reader wants to know about the word, the redirect to Alexander Kartveli is meaningless, while current redirect makes sense. --Altenmann >talk 00:13, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

A hatnote is required here in accordance with WP:HATNOTERULES rule 4. meamemg (talk) 16:50, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please reach CON. An article can not be a DAB magnet. Regards, An emperor 01:34, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Emperor of Emperors you can't just say "please reach CON" and revert the edit, when you are the only one arguing for its exclusion. Can you explain why the cited policies shouldn't apply here? meamemg (talk) 01:38, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please explain what do you mean under "DAB magnet". Otherwise it is unclear why "article can not be a DAB magnet". --Altenmann >talk 02:38, 5 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
