Questionable reference

[edit]

A reference cited in the article several times consists of "Thurgood, Lowell (May 11, 2014), George Walcott's Biography", without any indication as to where this biography may be found, e.g. book, newspaper, online, etc. It appears to be the source for the subject's birthdate and birthplace, both of which are contradicted by contemporaneous newspaper sources. The New York Times for February 26, 1921 contains an article "Boy Actor Gets $60,000" on page 7 that cites George Walcott's age as 9, while The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of December 16, 1923 in an article "Gossip of Plays and Players" on page 107 says he was born in Chicago. Another article, "Crippled Film Star, 9, Seeks $100,000 Damages" in the New York Daily News of February 25, 1921 on page 35 gives his full name as William George Walcott, son of William Walcott. Since there has been no elucidation on the questioned source during the last 18 months, I will remove all references to it from the article, and replace the incorrect birthname, birthplace, birthdate, and date of death with verifiable information. Saratoga Sam (talk) 17:36, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
