News?

[edit]

A German newspaper writes he lost 18.8 Million € in a single poker night in Montenegro. The source ("männersache") is not top-quality journalism. Is it true? https://www.msn.com/de-de/lifestyle/men/unfassbar-politiker-verliert-18-8-millionen-beim-pokern-in-einer-nacht/ar-BB1mYeNu --Himbeerbläuling (talk) 06:47, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Misleading and poor citations

[edit]

The citations indicating that he was a "financier" appear to be derived from comments on his own LinkedIn page which were rejected by at least two of the financial institutions listed: https://hopenothate.org.uk/2025/04/02/posh-george-cottrell/ KentishHill (talk) 20:48, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth

[edit]

Cottrell's entry at Companies House is this one, which shows his birth was in October 1993. The relevant record at FreeBMD appears to be this one, which gives GEORGE SWINFEN COTTRELL, mother's name WATSON, but GLOUCESTER district. So place of birth may be incorrect, or the birth in London was registered in Gloucester for some reason. This article in The Guardian, however, says he was "Gloucester-born". I can find no appropriate WP:RS for his birthday of 7 October. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:28, 11 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I agree there does not seem to be any WP:RS for this, so I've removed the day of month from the article. The template seems to work fine without it. The Anome (talk) 07:13, 6 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'm pinging User:Bobbob19 because I want to make sure you see this - please read WP:BLPPRIMARY - Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, home value, traffic citations, vehicle registrations, and home or business addresses.
