Origin of his pseudonym

Blundell may have taken his main pseudonym from an old edition of Punch (April 1917), in which a piece of verse describes how:

Sergt.-Instructor George Bellairs Prided himself on dreadful swears,

and goes on to describe how he failed to impress some men from a rowing team:

Then (he who late so freely cursed) Tried to express himself and—burst!

I haven't put this in the main entry as it is at present speculative. Does anyone know if this is, in fact, the name's origin - or is it just a coincidence? Jon Rob 10:07, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Further to the above: I've since discovered that there was a bank in the 18th century called Bellairs, which had a subsidiary with the name George Bellairs. Since Blundell was a banker, I must assume this was the source of his pseudonym, not the Punch entry referred to above. Jon Rob 08:37, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Removal of maintenance template
