Merge with Geomatics?

[edit]

I suggest merging this article with the article on 'Geomatics'. 09:39, 29 November 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timothy Cooper (talkcontribs)

See discussion at Talk:Geomatics#Merge_proposal which resulted in no consensus to merge. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 20:36, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article creation

[edit]

I beleive an independent article on geomatics engineering was needed and even previous merger proposal (Talk:Geomatics#Merge_proposal) was left unapproved hence let's develop this article else conduct a talk on this topic. I would help even in development of the article.Franked2004 (talk) 20:12, 16 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

The article so far has several inaccuracies, most notably that GIS did not exist until the advent of computers, so could not have inspired Wegener. The U.S. Army term is not geomatics engineering, it is geospatial engineering. This is the same as the National Guard source. The PDF for the documentation of the job is here.
Recommend this article be heavily revised and possibly merged with geomatics as a subsection. There are only three citations that use the term geomatics engineering and they are all university websites. If a merge does not happen, it will need more sources for verification. I took out the impossible part, it wasn't supported by the source. But it's not clear to me how that first paragraph of History is relevant to the topic of this article. GA-RT-22 (talk) 23:06, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Geoinformatics

[edit]

Geographic Information Science, geoinformatics, geomatics, quantitative geography, scientific geography, etc. are all terms that originated in different geographic locations during the past century. They compete with eachother but have significant overlap. One source on the topic "In conclusion, these two terms (geoinformatics and geomatics) are worth using and applying in practice because they clearly describe two overlapping areas of knowledge and skills, but indeed they differ significantly from each other."
