Correction on Cathars

[edit]

If Geoffroy wrote in 1181, as seems to be the case, he can't have described the Albigensian Crusade which began in 1208. So I reworded the sentence. OK? Andrew Dalby 17:42, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Basic factual errors

[edit]

A few things require urgent correcting here. First, his name: it should be de Breuil, not du Breuil (as you can see in the title of the edition cited in the bibliography). Second, Geoffrey was the prior of Vigeois, not its abbot. Third, he lived in what is now France, but it is misleading to call him French. There are many other points that need clarification or correction, but I would appreciate it if someone at least made these changes (I would do it myself, but since I am not in the habit of editing Wikipedia, I worry the edits would be reverted immediately). 173.59.43.117 (talk) 02:35, 8 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Update Bibliography

[edit]

I am inexperienced at how to format the bibliography, but it seems important to add the current edition of Geoffrey's chronicle (cited on the French Wikipedia page): La chronique de Geoffroi de Breuil, prieur de Vigeois, éd. Pierre Botineau et Jean-Loup Lemaître, trad. Bernadette Barrière, mise en forme et annotations, Stéphane Lafaye, Jean-Marie Allard, Jean François Boyer, Robert Chanaud, Catherine Faure, Luc Ferrand, Évelyne Proust, Christian Rémy et Étienne Rouziès, Paris, éditions de Boccard, 2021 (Société de l’Histoire de France).

It is also probably worth adding some of the studies of Geoffrey such as Nicholas Paul's To Follow in Their Footsteps, Patrick DeBrosse's "First Draft of a Saladin Legend", and the many essays by Jean-Loup Lemaitre. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-49647-06 (talk) 05:51, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
