- Comment: There appears to be some misunderstanding of the non-use of quotation marks in the essay, which says that the Wikipedia authors
... quote Lemkin that such genocide is 'the annihilation of a group's culture even if the group themselves are not completely destroyed.'3
where footnote 3 saysThe quote was provided by the Wikipedia writers. At the time of my writing this essay, its content is accurate; however, it is unclear from which source the quote was taken from.
The original insertion appears to be this edit on 04:51, 26 April 2017 with a fix of the misspelling two years later on 11:14, 13 May 2019, and that still matches the current version. I don't see any sign of the use of quotation marks. BothThe conclusion made is that ...

indicate that Wikipedia describes the meaning of what Lemkin says, which might have some overlap in wording (e.g. to the extent that the original words are the best and simplest available), but is not intended as a direct quote. I don't have access to the source, but Charny effectively agrees with us that the description should be written without quotation marks, since it does not claim to be a quote. Done I added some content from A Personal Autobiographical Essay on the Origins and Beginning Years of Genocide Studies, and Some Reflections on the Field Today (Q127976569) to the history section.
