Feedback from New Page Review process

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: I don't agree that the article is subjectively promotional as 5 of the 7 sources are, while positive, independent. Other perspectives may be useful, as will any results the Mission is able to achieve in due course. It's early days. I haven't altered the curation tags, but they may be a bit strong.

An example: "SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, which built the world’s largest digital camera, a 3.2-gigapixel behemoth that is now attached to the 8.4-meter telescope at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile. Every 3 nights, Rubin will image the entire southern sky, mapping 20 billion galaxies and adding another frame to a slow-motion movie that will reveal as never before how the universe is changing. Each night, 20 terabytes of data—the equivalent of 10,000 feature films—will flow to SLAC on a dedicated fiber-optic line. SLAC researchers have pledged to scan those data, identify transient events such as supernova explosions within 2 minutes, and issue alerts, potentially millions each night. AI tools are the only option for analyzing so much data so quickly, says Risa Wechsler, director of the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at SLAC. “No one’s going to look at 10 million events by hand.”

Criticism or controversy section sorely missing

The Genesis mission has been criticized quite a lot by researchers, and the press has reported on it.

Specifically, the Genesis mission is being used to funnel researchers to a program which the executive controls, as the US government has cut other funding sources. It is also being used to force researchers to share their research data with for-profit AI industry partners, which just so happen to align almost perfectly with Donald Trump's political sponsors (e.g. the ballroom donations).

Not to mention the ridiculous details in the Genesis mission documents, such as "robotic laboratories and production facilities with the ability to engage in AI-directed experimentation and manufacturing".

Of traditional media sources, the following report on the negative impact on science (or a risk thereof) that the Genesis misssion has: Ars Technica , The Conversation , Nature's news section , and Gizmodo . Some of them have written more extensively, connecting the dots with the general science funding situation, others are more careful (Nature).

There's also science communicator Angela Collier , with a deep dive on the topic.
