I renamed the 'check matrix' section to 'parity check matrix'. Let me know if anyone finds that offensive. I see that check matrix is already a redirect to parity check matrix anyway. --Culix (talk) 22:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Row Space Generator Matrix

As far as my understanding goes the linear code is the column space of the generator matrix, not the row space, thus the last part of the short description is wrong? Collapsingh (talk) 07:48, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

No, data words and code words are usually row vectors. $G$ is a $k\times n$ matrix mapping $1\times k$ data words to $1\times n$ code words. Thus, the rows of $G$ are code words. RoadHare (talk) 12:42, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Equivalent codes

The invertible matrix $U$ permutes columns of $G$, i.e., symbols of code words, right? So it should be $GU$, not $UG$. RoadHare (talk) 12:47, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
