Mention of Gemtext removed

[edit]

A sourced quote box was removed - is any of that information, specifically the part on Gemtext salvagable?

Context: I got here by following a wikilink to Gemtext, which is currently (August 2022) a redirect to Gemini (protocol) § Gemini resources.

As of today, there isn't a page section titled Gemini resources, so I'll update the Gemtext redirect to Gemini (protocol) § Gemtext format right now.

Add the purpose

I could not figure out easily why this was invented, to solve which limitation of HTTP/HTML? Ppezziardi (talk) 18:02, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

The article has a link to the official website - check out the FAQs there. Somewhen (talk) 18:12, 31 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup list of clients

[edit]

I tried to clean up the list of clients so that it isn't WP:INDISCRIMINATE, and that it satisfies the warning at the top of the section that the section probably doesn't follow external link guidelines, but Somewhen has reverted me. I'd like a third opinion on what to do here. --ABx11 (she/they | formerly TheAuroraBorealis | In solidarity) 18:27, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think the issue is that GTK, for example, is linked at least 6 times, and duplicate links are not favoured. The table contents need preserving overall, though as it is useful information. I'd welcome other opinions. Somewhen (talk) 22:35, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I'm the person who flagged the section as breaking external link guidelines. My stance on the issue is that Wikipedia is not a directory of web pages. The article may benefit from a small list of clients whose notability/relevance can be verified with reliable sources, or that already have Wikipedia articles. However, the use of external links in the article body is seldom allowed. In this case, deleting or pruning the table and providing a link to a directory of software made for Gemini in the External Links session is the most appropriate, per point #3 on WP:ELMAYBE. Conveniently, two such directories, one curated and one uncurated are provided on Gemini's official site. One is even mentioned in the article already. ~2026-31897-45 (talk) 03:01, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Looks like no third party wants in, but I like your suggestion here. I am convinced by your argument - thanks for taking the time to respond. Somewhen (talk) 07:54, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I support limiting the article's client-list to those that are bluelinked (either product or company). That means we can avoid cherry-picking based on our own opinions and we avoid being (or looking like) a spam-magnet, but instead rely on notablity in the wikipedia sense and WP:WTAF. And per WP:NOTDIR, having a link to an external/upstream index is nice. DMacks (talk) 11:39, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
