Article naming

[edit]

@Trustable @Andra Febrian I see there has been some confusion on what to name this car, so I'll try to give some background/history so we can find the correct one. Geely's Geome/Geometry used to be an independent brand which predates Geely Galaxy by a few years, and Geome was merged into the Geely Galaxy brand in Oct '24 probably due to low sales. However, their dealership networks still remain separate, so all Geome models (smaller, entry level) continue to be sold (primarily, possibly exclusively) in Geome dealerships rebranded as Geely Galaxy 'Network B' dealerships, while the (larger, pricier) original Geely Galaxy models are sold at their original Geely Galaxy 'Network A' dealerships.

The Xingyuan is a smaller, cheaper car and is sold at Geome/Network B dealerships. In 2024, it had 2.8x more sales than the rest of the Geome lineup combined despite only starting in late Sept, so if there was an intention to phase out the Network B dealerships and the Geome subbrand, the sudden jump in sales probably messed up that plan; it was even the best selling EV in China in Jan (weird month). On this 100k poster from Feb '25, the top left says 'Geely Galaxy', while the sentence portion of the poster says 'Geely Xingyuan' with no mention of Geome or Galaxy. However, the (possibly outdated) press media deck pictures in the rest of the article shows 'Geome' on the back and steering wheel, though the Chinese badging on the rear only says 'Geely' and 'Xingyuan'.

The formal name for this vehicle may be 'Geely Galaxy Geome Xingyuan', but 'Geely Geome Xingyuan' or 'Geely Xingyuan' don't really feel super incorrect to me, I don't have a strong opinion on it yet. Do note that 'Geely Galaxy' is a 'full brand', not just a subbrand of Geely. Needlesballoon (talk) 04:45, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Needlesballoon Since Geometry was merged into Geely Galaxy, it has become merely a product line rather than a product name (you won’t find any models named "Geome" on Geely’s official website). The letters “Geome” now only serves as a "badge" on the front of vehicles, which is not uncommon in the automotive industry. The official name of this car is the **Geely Xingyuan**, and this remains unaffected under the **Geely Galaxy** brand. Infinty 0 (talk) 05:52, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Agree with Infinty 0, "Geome" is now simply a decorational logo and not mentioned anywhere in the company's publications. Andra Febrian (talk) 06:41, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
