The 1989 Date Debunked

[edit]

There's a Game Axe FC-868 (Color version in this video) on ebay with a Manufacturing Date of 92. 1. 10 But this is Taiwan. The year 92 in Taiwan is 2003 because Taiwan uses the Minguo calendar (Republic of China calendar).

The 1st internet archive of the manufacturer's website was in Jan 1999 with the counter on their page (either when it started or they added the page counter) saying the site started 10/10/98. This was a .tw (Taiwan) website.

A 1999 IGN article said the Game Axe was "brand new" & hitting Japan. An April 1999 issue of Japanese magazine Game Lab calls it a "new machine."

The 1989 date comes from an IGN article in June 2000. They said, "Apparently, the Game Axe is not a new invention ¿ a sticker on the back of the unit dates it from 1989!" Remember the manufacturing sticker uses Taiwan's year. Guess what the year 89 in Taiwan is to the Gregorian calendar.. 2000! Same year as the article.
