Proposed redirect to Fur language

[edit]

I think this article is about the same subject as Fur language. If I'm right then this article could be rediredcted to Fur language. If I'm wrong, what's the difference? Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:05, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

At the risk of simply repeating the content of both pages: Fur languages are a small language family comprising distinct two languages: the eponymous Fur language and Amdang. Fur is a language, the Fur languages are a language family. Thus two different things. –Austronesier (talk) 13:28, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
While a structure with this article ("Fur languages") containing sections about the Fur and Amdang languages, with "Fur language" and "Amdang" as redirects to "Fur languages", would be acceptable, that would be a lot of trouble to go to without, in my opinion, improving Wikipedia. I.e., I think it best to leaves things as they are. - Donald Albury 00:20, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Austronesier: @Donald Albury: Thank you for you explanation (and your patience). I had misread the article. I've made what I think is an improvement: comments welcome. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 14:43, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Shhhnotsoloud: Thanks for the edit, but that's not how we do it in other language family articles, including small language family articles like Palaihnihan languages, Chukotko-Kamchatkan languages, Ongan languages, Tanoan languages. Having a full section for member branches is IMHO a case of WP:OVERSECTIONing. I'll re-edit and try to keep it simple, but clear-structured. –Austronesier (talk) 15:08, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
