Fresno City College

[edit]

Fresno City College is the oldest community college (in continuous operation) in California, not Fullerton. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TaylorrJ (talkcontribs) 07:58, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is there a reliable source stating that? tedder (talk) 04:01, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think that this site has that information at the second paragraph: http://www.fresnocitycollege.edu/index.aspx?page=230 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.197.142.13 (talk) 03:22, 11 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am going change the lead back to what it said previously, for the following reasons:
1. The current citation does not say that FC is the "is the fourth oldest community college in continuous operation in California." All it says is that FC started in 1913.
2. I am unable to find any WP:RS that says FC is the 4th oldest.
3. There are numerous WP:RS sources (both primary and secondary) that say what it used to say: Namely that it "...is the oldest continuously in service community college in California."
4. The link given immediately above in this Talk Page section, only says that another CC started in 1910, but it does NOT say that one remained "continuously in service in California."
5. In any event, if some CC in CA does say it started before 1913, we can not use that to say that FC is NOT "...the oldest continuously in service community college in California." That is because any editor that makes such an interpretation, is violating the OR and POV prohibitions in Wiki rules of editing. Those rules do not permit Wiki editors to INTERPRET the meaning of statements in primary sources. We can only report what other WP:RS sources say, preferably SECONDARY WP:RS sources, but also primary sources too, especially if they seem to agree.
If anyone thinks they can find WP:RS cites that would prove FC is NOT "...the oldest continuously in service community college in California," then be sure it clearly says that, before you change it back. EditorASC (talk) 10:33, 14 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Editors are using the Fullerton College website for excessive citations, ideally we would not use their own website for this. Please refer to Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. Jooojay (talk) 06:02, 22 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
