Largest Thermal Lake?

[edit]

Frying Pan Lake is described as the largest thermal lake in the world at 38000 square metres. However, Lake Heviz in Hungary is 47500 square metres. Doesn't this mean Lake Heviz is actually the largest thermal lake in the world? ~2026-36824-99 (talk) 13:58, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

The referenced article claim is to largest hot spring not thermal lake. The Lake Hévíz article has no citation as to its thermal lake claim and may for all I know have several hot spring sources. Its an interesting issue as to what is a thermal lake as any bigger lake with hot springs that bring their net water temperature up even a little bit above ambient such as the very much larger Lake Taupō could qualify. I observe Lake Hévíz's current size has had artificial intervention. ChaseKiwi (talk) 01:29, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for drawing my attention to the multiple faults in the Lake Hévíz article if this was your intention, as these have now been addressed. Fancy that, an article with no sources and almost certainly written using historic material compiled by the spa and health resort operators who may have CoIs. Ya, I initially put "thermal lake" instead of "hot spring" in error and considered correcting it. However I mainly added a comment here because I thought Frying Pan Lake would probably have more visibility than Lake Hévíz and this would prompt someone to correct the Lake Hévíz page, so I left it as is.
The Lake Hévíz article reads word for word like the tourism brochures in Hévíz. The wording is undoubtedly just lifted from those. Mussher90 (talk) 11:44, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well if so that was a copyright issue now addressed mainly. most of the wording left from my work through is not likely to be in a tourist brochure but now I will now have to look at any in English on the net more than one I sighted just to see if you were right ChaseKiwi (talk) 19:52, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
No your changes are good. I just know because I was in Hévíz and at a spa hotel last week and was reading the same spiel everywhere. Mussher90 (talk) 20:01, 27 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
