Notability tag

I've tagged this page for notability, and I want to explain why. It's not clear to me that the page subject should be worth anything more than a passing mention on Kirk's bio page. Most of the coverage at this time seems to treat this as a passing phenomenon, with some gossipy stuff about the obstacles that are arising, but not as something of political or artistic significance. Perhaps, more evidence of notability will emerge over time, but it hasn't, yet. --Tryptofish (talk) 00:37, 27 July 2026 (UTC)

We should wait and see, as there will most likely be some sources of it being placed in Times Square when that happens, and also, it's bound to get vandalized because it's Charlie Kirk, so we might see sources on that too. ReelCosmix (talk) 00:40, 27 July 2026 (UTC)

Sergio Furnari has been promoting the statue project on his Instagram account since last year. Both this article and Furnari's article were created when the self-promotion made it into media news and local news ("A New York City artist says he plans to unveil"). It's unclear from the reporting whether he has applied for and received permission for the temporary art installation in Times Square. It currently doesn't meet WP:GN and should be deleted. It may deserve an article if and when it is installed and has received significant coverage similar to the Best Friends Forever (sculpture) which was mostly due to the statue's removal by US Park Police. Removing tag

Like stated by the creator of the statue, it's planned to be installed in Times Square in 15 days from now, so I'm not saying this will happen, but if this page is deleted due to this tag, it would be a massive waste of time just for it to be recreated in 15 days from now. Also, I'm sure there will be more news on this statue when the time comes, plus, it will 100% be vandalized as it's Charlie Kirk, which people have said they will as well, which will most likely get coverage. The tag does not mean that the page will be deleted. It means that editors should work on making the page meet notability guidelines, and if there is increased coverage after installation, then that should be easy, and the tag might well be removed after that. --Tryptofish (talk) 15:50, 26 August 2026 (UTC)

That's reasonable, but there's a good argument for waiting on any attempt at deleting. I'm the editor who placed the tag, and I will insist on waiting. I'm not trying to kill the page, just trying to make sure it gets better. --Tryptofish (talk) 16:10, 26 August 2026 (UTC)

I removed the tag. I haven't looked how the page looked at the moment it was tagged, but 23 sources (plus those found elsewhere that haven't been added to support potential new statements caused by today's memorial activities) is beyond the requirements for artworks, which is covered by WP:GNG. @Realcosmixyt: I'll move on, but per MOS:IM, editors should "Avoid sandwiching text horizontally between two files that face each other, between a file and an infobox, or similar configuration." See also MOS:SANDWICH, "Mul­ti­ple im­ages may be stag­gered left and right, but a­void sand­wich­ing text be­tween two op­po­sing im­ages, in­fo­boxes, or sim­i­lar tem­pla­tes."
