Proposed update to Freedom article (COI disclosure)
[edit]Hello editors,
I am disclosing a conflict of interest as I am connected to the company Eighty Percent Solutions, Inc., the developer of the Freedom app. Because of this COI, I will not make direct edits to the article myself.
The current article on Freedom is significantly out of date and does not reflect more recent reliable sources or academic research. I have prepared a draft in my user sandbox, written with the goal of meeting Wikipedia’s neutral point of view and supported by independent, reliable references.
Draft sandbox: User:Toccare/sandbox/Freedom
Key improvements in the draft include:
- Updated lead summarizing the app’s cross-platform availability and purpose.
- Expanded sections on academic research, citing peer-reviewed studies (Carnegie Mellon, University of California Irvine, Cardiff University).
- Media coverage from BBC, The Guardian, The New York Times, Entrepreneur, and other major outlets.
- Updated infobox reflecting the correct developer, Eighty Percent Solutions, Inc.
- Clearer structure: Overview, Purpose and Use, Academic Research, Media Coverage, Features.
For context:
- Current article – very short, mostly based on sources from 2008–2011, with little information on current features or research. It does not mention cross-platform support, academic studies, or recent media coverage.
- Proposed draft – updated to reflect multi-platform support, incorporates peer-reviewed studies (Carnegie Mellon, UC Irvine, Cardiff University), and summarizes recent coverage in major outlets (BBC, The Guardian, New York Times, Entrepreneur). It provides a more balanced, neutral overview of the software’s purpose, features, and cultural relevance.
I would appreciate if uninvolved editors could review the sandbox draft and, if appropriate, replace the current live article with it.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
