Date of ordination

[edit]

@Manannan67: Thanks for expanding the article. I'm from the Canton of Solothurn in Switzerland, where Francis de Sales Brunner came from, and I'm quite interested in all history surrounding Mariastein Abbey, which is close to where my father grew up. I see that you added an alternative date of ordination, February 15, 1816 based upon the 1892 work by Shea. Well, the 1819 date is not only in the Catholic Encyclopedia, but also in the article in the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland, which is the leading current encyclopedia on Swiss history. That article is written by Father Lukas Schenker OSB who is not only a historian, but also the former abbot of Mariastein. So it's 2:1 for 1819, and one of the sources is the most current one from a work of the highest standard. So maybe we could remove the 1816 date or move if as a less likely variant to an annotation, or similar? Gestumblindi (talk) 10:43, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for clarifying that. I have amended the text, but left mention of Shea should someone happen to come across it and have questions. Manannan67 (talk) 15:32, 1 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
