The Four cardinal principles were stated by Deng Xiaoping in 1979 and are the four issues for which debate was not and is allowed within the People's Republic of China.

does this sentence sound confusing to anyone else but me?

I think it's just missing a "not", as in "was not and is not...", but I'm not enough of a Sinophile to know for sure. --LDC

Considering the four principles are constitutional basis of the political definition of PRC, so I think there is a "not" missing. However, does it really make any sense to put the sentence "...for which debate was not and is [not] allowed within the PRC"? If it's just to emphasize the importance and solidity and indubitability, I think it's better to just state that the four principles are now highlighted both in the constitution of PRC and the CPC. 128.141.254.70 (talk) 21:06, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
