Qwirkle, I suspect issues have as much to do with substandard translation from fr wiki, as anything else, though I don't plan on looking this over in too much detail for a while. Looks like Vauban and the French Military Under Louis XIV has a section on it if you want to try your hand at a rewrite, if not I may eventually take a pass at it if I can get a few good sources assembled and the time to review them.
