Fort Hanson was most likely named after Col. John Hanson, a planter from St. Augustine. W.K. Hanson had not entered the war in Florida in 1838 when the post was established. A different regiment established the fort.

Changes made
[edit]Fort Hanson was most likely named after plantation owner Col. John Hanson of St. Augustine. 1st Lt. W.K. Hanson and his regiment, the 7th Infantry, had not entered the war in Florida when the fort was established, so it is unlikely it would be named after the junior office of an entirely different regiment.
Information on Fort Peyton and Fort Fulton were removed. The dates that they existed were different shown by the post returns and adjutant letters. They were also geographically in different places and not "replacement forts."
