Ranks

According to this article, the fort's first commander was a captain (John Henry). But by the mid-19th century, the man in charge was a brigadier-general (Franklin Pierce). That seems to be quite a jump in ranks. Is it correct ? RASAM (talk) 15:40, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

The first Fort Adams (1799) was a small fort and garrisoned by only one company. The present fort is much larger and was a major mobilization point. During the Civil War, for example, Fort Adams was the headquarters of the 15th US Infantry regiment. The commander in the Mexican-American War was Benjamin Kendrick Pierce, brother of Franklin. From his bio he appears to have been a colonel during the war. RobDuch (talk) 06:15, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
