Removed from Cleanup List

[edit]

This article was placed in the cleanup queue on March 2008. Over the last roughly 6 years, no cleanup reason has been provided. Substantial edits have taken place not related to the cleanup tag. I am removing the tag for now. If in the future the tag is re-aadded, please include a "reason" flag and note your reasons for doing so here so that the issue can be resolved. Also feel free to contact me directly for help. Jaydubya93 (talk) 14:02, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merge

[edit]

I merged in the list of foreign ciies but the article still reads like a disorganized list of facts on two related subjects (foreign born scientists in the US and cities with maor foreign born populations) rather than a descriptive artice. I also have no included any of the international pictures from the old "list of foreign born per city" article. Anyone who wants to add them can look at the wikicode from:This prevous edition Avraham (talk) 18:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Largest source of immigrants in Toronto

[edit]

Statcan says there are more recent immigrants from India than China, but that's for immigrants from 2001-2006: [1]. In 2001 there were more foreign-born people from China: [2] and by my calculations the 2001-2006 numbers isn't enough to make up the difference. It's unknown what happened since 2006. Until I see otherwise, I have left the country as China in the article. Hypertall (talk) 17:57, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Cities/Regions With Highest Percentage of Foreign Born Population

USA is listed as #3 in the "Cities/Regions With Highest Percentage of Foreign Born Population" section however if you check the reference http://usgovinfo.about.com/cs/censusstatistic/a/foreignborn.htm "Of the total U.S. population, 11.8 percent were foreign-born" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.167.254.48 (talk) 20:42, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Updated census data and added percentages to cities

[edit]

If you would like to review my work feel free. Some of the data had been updated since last time it was changed. Cities have moved around. How do we verify there aren't *other* cities with higher populations than the bottom few?  Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.176.9.254 (talk) 14:41, 14 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

The 2021 census recorded that 3,575,739 people or 40.6% of London's population were foreign-born making it the city with the second largest immigrant population after New York, in terms of absolute numbers.

Bangladesh on every metro area?

[edit]

It appears some user added Bangladesh to most of the metropolitan/urban areas' list of immigrant sources. Vandalism or not, I'm pretty sure many of them have very small numbers of Bangladeshi diaspora if not none at all (e.g. New York City, Dallas-Fort Worth, Montreal, etc.). Lamp301 (talk) 21:18, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Just removed Bangladesh from metropolitan areas that don't have a sizable enough Bangladeshi population. Was that considered shoehorning? If so, we might have to review the "Metropolitan and urban regions with the largest foreign-born populations" and take a harder look at the immigrant source countries. --Lamp301 (talk) 06:33, 10 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Dubai

[edit]

Why isn't Dubai in the list? It should be at the number one spot with a 3.79 million foreign-born residents or 90% of its population.

Karachi Pakistan figure source

[edit]

I can't find either the 90% or 18,342,000 figure in the linked sources. Does anyone know where it's from? If not should delete RightfulOfficePlants (talk) 14:46, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'll delete. According to statistics Pakistan has only a 3.2m foreign born population (in 2005), whereas Karachi's population was around 12m, so a ratio of at most 25%. Unless significant migration has happened since 2005, which I'm not aware of... Deleting QueensanditsCrazy (talk) 14:33, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Misrepresentation or poor language choice?

[edit]

I don't know about the rest of the table, but Canada's 23% foreign born is 23% of the citizenry, not 23% of all humans on Canadian territory at the moment. So the title "Countries with the largest foreign-born populations" is misleading. If the table is meant to mean citizenry, then the title needs to be corrected. But in Canada, the number of foreign workers, student visas, and all other temporary residents is another whole quarter of the "population", which means Canada is approximately 50% foreign born. If the table is meant to represent all foreigners on the soil, not just foreign born citizens, then the data needs to be amended. I suspect the listing for the UAE is all foreign borns in the country, not just foreign born citizens... Tallard (talk) 06:50, 4 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
