Most sources used forced conversions. Why Wikipedians are using the un common word coerced. This is confusing

Coerced religious conversion in Pakistan → Forced religious conversion in Pakistan – First I searched coerced religious conversions in Pakistan and could not find important sources using the word coerced. The google search shows forced.

Almost every sources use the word forced. The article was initially written like that as the sources also used forced.

• Forced conversion to Islam in Pakistan would be a better name for the article. (1) Yes, I agree that sources used "forced conversion" rather than "coerced religious conversion". It also seems to be the WP:COMMONNAME, which is why the article on forced/coerced conversion is called forced conversion. There is a category Category:Forced religious conversion. There is also an article on forced conversions of Muslims in Spain (though that one is about Muslims being coerced to become Christians). Evidence from general Google searches is not conclusive "forced conversion" 403. "coerced conversion" 306, but is conclusive for News searches "forced conversion" 300, "coerced conversion" 9. (2) The article only deals with forced conversion to Islam in Pakistan. Support. Calling it "Coerced" feels highly euphemistic and like an attempt to dress it up. @Maltazarian: I agree with you that the commonly-used word in this context is forced. But I believe you are mistaken in believing that "coerced" is euphemistic; in the contexts of sex and relationships, "coerced" is a word commonly used by government and in laws - for example U.S. Office on Women's Health Sexual coercion, or Women’s Aid Federation of England What is coercive control?. -- Toddy1 (talk) 07:14, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
